Internet/Instant Messaging Slang-

Just as internet speech is different and shortened for English, like 'lol' or 'rotfl', the French also have sayings 'mdr' which means 'mort de rire' (died laughing). They also shorten speech as in 'ke c pa' which is 'que c'est pas' which means 'that it's not'. I will also be adding more of this type of thing.

mdr- mort de rire, died laughing, just like ‘lol’ - (example- "j’ai failli mort de rire")(note- can also be mdrr)

Just as in English the French will shorten words- impec=impeccable, etcetera. See more examples here.

jorai- j'aurai (and possibly je n'aurai)
pa du tt- pas du tout
tt- tout
mm- meme
stp- s'il te plait
pk- parce que
ki- qui
ke- que

Slang- Old and New

chouette- cool, awesome, great, wonderful "c'est chouette" or even"hyper-chouette" meaning extra cool! pronounced 'shoo ett' so the "We're going to make you chouette!" has a great double meaning.

**please note- if you are going to try and use slang with a French person or in France, be warned- this is all informal and some of it could be offensive if used incorrectly- know what you're saying before you say it- the teacher who taught me French slang in France always cautioned us against trying to use it because there are many meanings and if you're not French you can't know for sure!**

 How to say a boy or girl is cute?

   il/elle est trognon(ne) - trognon comes from mixing "trop" and "mignon" (too cute)- trop is an informal word and trognon is usually used by adolescents or young adults.

Chouette- excellent

Futal- pantalon (pants)

Mine- face, look, "J'ai une bonne mine

Pif (m)- nez (nose)

Tifs- cheveux (hair)

Bide (m)- ventre (stomach)

Fêlé (m)- cracked, like crazy (fou)

Clopes- cigarettes

Téloche- télévision

Cinoche- cinéma (movies)

Calendos (m)- camembert (Camembert cheese)

Dingue- fou, ouf (crazy)

Pinces- pied (feet)

Pot (m)- verre (glass)

Tronche (f)- tête (head)

Truc (m)- chose (thing)

Crècher- habiter/dormir (to sleep)

Serrer la pince- serrer la main (shake hands)
